Matt Cutts, head of Google’s search spam team, left Ann Smarty, brand manager of Internet Marketing Ninjas, completely surprised with his announcement that Google would penalize her blogging network ‘Myblogguest.com’. After the announcement, Myblogguest.com lost its rankings in Google search results.
Ann is surprised by the penalty because she was quite certain that her site would not be penalized by Google as she was sure that neither her blog is a network not it sells links.
Though Ann Smarty denies her blog to be a blogging network which sells links, many people active in online business world say that very well that it is a blogging network which agencies use to promote the businesses of their respective clients.
Myblogguest.com, which was introduced to the world in 2009, has more than 70,000 users. On an average, more than 250 blogs are approved daily on it.
After Google’s update, website owners whose websites have got links through ‘Myblogguest’ have received messages in the inbox of their web master tools accounts that they should remove the links got from ‘Myblogguest.com’.
Ann Smarty has declined the possibility of changing policies and providing ‘No Follow’ links through her blog in steer clear words despite her site has lost its visibility in the search results of Google.
Industry experts are divided on the issue whether the era of guest blogging ended or not. Some experts are saying that through this penalty Google has clearly signaled that guest blogging era has ended for SEO purposes. On the other side, some experts believe that Google would have to revoke this decision in future.
Now, it would be interesting to see what happens.
